When the Wall Street Journal covered the anxiety epidemic at work, the first experts featured were New York Times bestselling authors Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton.

In his "Anxiety at Work" keynote session, Chester will offer 8 tactics for managers to help their employees build resilience, including spotting the signs for hiding anxiety, tools to alleviate stress and manage uncertainty, encouraging people to overcome perfectionism and speak up when feeling overwhelmed, and instill an ethic of inclusion and support.

Why Placemaking Is the New Catalyst for Growth
The way communities seek to grow has undergone a major shift. In the past, attracting businesses was job one. Now the old incentive model no longer works. Smart communities follow this bedrock principle: capital follows talent, and talent follows place. Rather than touting themselves as “shovel ready”, they focus on placemaking. They do everything possible to make sure their community attracts talent and fosters entrepreneurial opportunity. When people want live, work, and play in a community, new companies will follow, which in turn attracts more talent. This is how vibrant communities happen: organically.

In this panel discussion you’ll hear insights and learn best practices from placemaking experts and others who have embrace the new economic development model:

Finding Success Through Giving Back
As sophomores in Florida State University’s entrepreneurship program, Mitch Nelson and his co-founder, Jason McIntosh, took a trip to the local homeless shelter in March of 2014 looking for an opportunity to fulfill their own need for socks. Expecting to hear “food” or “shelter,” they were surprised to learn there was a huge need for clean socks. The inspiration for DivvyUp was born.

Wanting to start giving immediately, they purchased and sold fun socks with a mission to give a pair to the shelter for every pair the community purchased. Setting up around campus wherever they could, Mitch and Jason were able to give 160 pairs of clean socks to the Tallahassee homeless shelter after the first six weeks.

Inspired by the initial success, they knew this was something they had to bring to the world. Mitch and Jason invested in building a beautiful website, creating a fun brand, and purchasing even more socks from established sock companies.

DivvyUp was officially founded on August 19th, 2014 and since then they have hit a major milestone of 1.25 million pairs gifted. The brand has continued to evolve and grow by venturing into custom sock creation.

Join this session to hear from Mitch on how he has achieved such success with Divvy Up and the lessons learned along the way.

Allyship: The New Currency for Gender Equality
The national focus on promoting allyship in the workplace has shifted the focus for inclusion in the workplace from a passive role to an active one.  The Harvard Business Review defines allyship as a “strategic mechanism” against social injustice in the workplace, indicating the need for confidence and competence in this wielding this highly-desired skill (Melaku et al., 2020).  Even if you already know the “what,” do you know the “how” of promoting allyship in the workplace?  Allyship between genders has the potential to improve the overall quality of workplace culture, making this an imperative skill for everyone to master.  As the national understanding of allyship continues to become more comprehensive, it is increasingly important to learn how to leverage, mentor, and manage allyships to everyone’s benefit.  In this session, Thomas Greek of Navy Federal Credit Union will teach you how to promote the key skill of allyship between genders in your workplace so that you can contribute to the nationwide movement towards more equitable work environments.

The Science of Happiness: How to Re-Engage in the Work You Once Loved
Do you find yourself feeling unsettled or questioning whether you're on the right path? Do you dread waking up in the morning and find it more difficult to motivate at work? Do you ever think to yourself, "there's gotta be more than this?"

Often times we think that once we’re successful, we’ll be happy. But research shows us that it’s the other way around. Being happy and engaged actually bolsters your performance, and the good news is, whether you're feeling just blah or straight up miserable, it doesn't have to stay this way!

According to Gallup, 85% of all people around the globe feel unengaged in their work. Most folks believe the answer is either to find a new job or to suck it up. But there's another approach - and it's one where you can finally figure out how to be energized, joyful, and have a deep sense of meaning...regardless of your circumstances.

Join Stella Grizont, Executive Coach and Positive Psychology Expert to learn about the emerging new field around the science of happiness and how you can thrive at work, and in life.

Her can’t-miss keynote will share the secrets to controlling your emotions (so you can be more positive and resilient despite setbacks), living a life worth living and working at a job worth doing and to figuring out what you really want (so you can make decisions with confidence and speed)!

Happiness isn’t just something that happens to the lucky ones or by accident – it’s actually the result of practicing key inner skills to help you flourish at work and in life.

Instrinsic Inclusion: Rebooting Your Biased Brain
We know that everyone has certain biases. But what makes some people more naturally inclusive? Turns out that your brain may have a lot to do with it — and it may be possible to train your brain. Based on his book, this session is about the intersection of diversity, neuroscience, biases and biology.

This keynote will explore if and how we might rewire our brains to disrupt implicit unconscious biases, change ‘default’ mindsets, and develop intrinsically inclusive behaviors. The session encourages both dialogue and discovery, empowered by intrinsic motivation to be more naturally inclusive in yourself and your organization.

Maintaining a strong culture in a hybrid telecommuting environment is crucial to a business’ success and it’s not as hard as you might think. If an organization has strong values, these values can be translated to a remote environment as the guiding compass. In the middle of a pandemic it is equally important to draw the distinction between culture and climate with your employees. Be intentional on conducting regular team meetings, a camera-on culture, reward and recognition, getting to know your team members, providing an avenue for your employee’s opinions to be heard and rounding on your employees. Communication, trust and clear expectations has never been as important as it is in a remote environment. Learn how to transition your current culture and make it even stronger even in a hybrid and remote environment.

This phenomenon is uncharted territory for many business leaders and has been dubbed “The Great Resignation” by Professor Anthony Klotz of the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University.

But why this mass exodus? Turns out workers are leaving their companies for greener pastures with better opportunities.

In this breakout session, expert Mike Harbour will share the top five reasons organizations are losing their most talented employees (as well as the high cost of losing them!) and five ways to keep your “A” players from leaving, stopping the “The Great Resignation” in its tracks!

Entrepreneurship Unvarnished
The idea of being your own boss and investing in your own enterprise is exciting! However, most of the time, that’s all people see — a person at the top of the mountain, not all the hard work it took them to get there.

However, success as an entrepreneur doesn’t happen overnight. It isn’t all fun and games, and most successes are the product of exhausting behind-the-scenes work and years of practice and failure.

So, if you’re thinking about taking the plunge into a new venture OR you’re already in the thick of it, join “advertising writer turned kooky inventor” Doug Gonterman to learn the keys to branding, selling on Amazon, and how to overcome setbacks and burnout — otherwise known as the “unvarnished” side of entrepreneurship.

Maintaining Your Identity for All of Your Roles
As women, we often identify ourselves in one category: Loving mother. Devoted sister. Ambitious entrepreneur. Successful CEO.

But do we really have to choose just one? Is it possible to be both a mother and an entrepreneur? Can you succeed at being an amazing friend while breaking the glass ceiling?

What Makes Great Teams Great
Great Teams Understand Their “Why.” They feel collectively connected to a Greater purpose. Learn how to constantly remind your players and employees of who they are in service of while being acutely aware of the downstream beneficiaries. The impact is often much more than the immediate customer—when we can connect and truly feel why what we do matters, it heightens the amount of discretionary effort we put into our tasks and responsibilities. The more a company creates "Feel-it Moments” or “Mission Moments” for team members to understand their Greater purpose, the better off the team will be when it comes to enduring any challenges along the way.

In this captivating keynote, Don Yaeger shares his findings from firsthand experiences & interviews with Olympic Gold Medal winners like former USA Basketball Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K), 2-time NBA Champion Kevin Durant, and USA Basketball CEO Jerry Colangelo, as well as 6-time NFL Super Bowl Champion quarterback Tom Brady, thought-leader Simon Synek, and longtime Medtronic CEO Bill George.
